LOL

Speaking of Hunter - what was the first Hunter tune the boys ever performed live?

First Hunter tune they played was Alligator, which they started doing in spring '67. (Never mind earlier bogus dates.) He mailed them the lyric, and they added another verse & put it to music...
Dark Star & China Cat followed late in the year, after Hunter came to California.

Garcia was very relieved not to have to write lyrics anymore! He called all his earlier songs pitiful & embarrassing....

could be wrong, but think Dark Star and Chinacat were first sung at the same show, Dark Star was performed first in the set and also appears to have been performed as an instrumental before that, so Dark Star is my answer

Didn't Hunter write Alligator? It was first played on 12-18-65.
